This weekend, I’m in Cleveland, hanging out with other stained glass artists in the national guild. (I think I’m the youngest one here – and I’m not young!)
As a nonprofit worker, I don’t often have a lot of money. I was lucky that the guild offered me a scholarship to come, covering some of the costs of getting here from Seattle.
I took a class in glass painting from the amazing Indre McCraw. You may not know her by name, but you’ve probably seen her work. A not-so-secret secret in the art world is that a lot of artists, when they get famous, outsource a lot of the labor on their pieces (ahem Dale Chihuly). So when painters want their work to be in stained glass, they come to someone like McCraw. She paints it, they put their names on it. You’ve likely seen her work and not known she did it.
